Hot & Muggy

This month of August has made it impossible to spend any carving time in an unconditioned work shop so, again I have moved my carving time back into the house where it is air conditioned. With a carving week at Wild Acres Retreat almost among us I will be looking forward to some cooler carving weather by attending this year’s Retreat.

This year’s Summer Picnic, with chicken and dessert provided by the club, was successful due to the quick response of Bill Dominick and Joe Davis. When Bill and I figured out that neither one of us had brought the chicken (small detail), I went into panic mode. Bill in his calm manner said to Joe “Let’s Go”. They drove to a local grocery store and bought out most of their baked chicken which was hot and had just been put out for sale. Just an hour away before serving time Bill and his team started the “Feathers Flying”!!!! By dinner serving time, Bill and team brought out the baked chicken cut-up in serving size pieces. Thank you Bill & Joe for plan “B”. It was great!!!

We missed all those that could not attend and are in hopes that they can attend our Christmas Social.

We thank Paul DesRosiers in volunteering his time and talent in giving us some expert entertainment during our summer social just before our raffle. Paul provided some music with his inside Bag Pipes which turned out really nice. Also, thanks for all those that helped in setup and cleanup of this event.

During our Summer Social we always try to give to Loaves and Fishes. We had 97 lbs of can goods and dry goods for the clubs donation to Loaves and Fishes. Thanks to Nancy Murray for your help.

With August arriving and September around the corner we have two events coming up. A weeks long of carving at Wild Acres Retreat and three days of demo carving at the Matthews Alive Festival. If you haven’t signed up for carving classes see Rod Gatlin. To participate in the Matthews Alive demo carving see Bob Benston.

Due to taking carving classes at Wild Acres Retreat on August 22nd, clubs president will not be available at our Tuesday scheduled meetings.

For all upcoming events check the clubs on-line calendar.

"He carves life-like sculptures that show birds in their natural habitat. ... He paints all his sculptures with acrylics or oils.
“ 'I usually decide on the bird first, then how it will be mounted, including the habitat, and then make the habitat out of whatever it takes to create the habitat I am envisioning,'
“...'My theory is that a great carving done with a so-so paint job is just a so-so piece. ...'”
