Greetings Fellow Carvers
Well this has certainly been an oppressive summer with heat and humidity skyrocketing. The upside to all this hot weather suggests that now is a good to finalize all those projects that just need a little more finishing or painting or staining. This is a great time to stay indoors with the air conditioning and complete your carvings.

On July 19, 2019 we were fortunate enough to have Marty Leenhouts from My Chip Carving teach a 1 day course on chip carving. Marty is from Garden City, MN and brought with him carving knives, patterns, practice boards and bass wood for those in attendance to use. We all learned a lot and are very appreciative that Marty took time to visit us in Charlotte. Thanks also to those from other clubs that were able to attend. We had about 30 participants to this event.
August is shaping up to be another busy month. First we will have our carving outing in Wildacres. This yearly event provides great instructors, good fellowship and wonderful scenery. We are all looking forward to the cooler mountain temperatures at Wildacres. Immediately after our Wildacres trip we will be carving at Matthews Alive for the Labor Day weekend. This event draws thousands of people from all over. We will be promoting the art of wood carving with live demonstrations for the entire weekend.
I just heard that this is the hottest July on record. Stay cool, stay hydrated and have fun carving!
