With temperatures well above 950 in Charlotte, some of us gathered our carving tools and wine and once again headed off to Wild Acres Retreat located in the North Carolina Mountains for some cooler weather carving classes.
When we arrived on Monday morning the weather wasn’t much different than where we left, HOT!!!
We were all meeting for lunch at a pre determined location when we were notified that this place we were eating Ran Out of Food. WOW!!! So with the fast acting response of our leader, Rod Gatlin, we found ourselves with PIZZA being brought to our carving studio. Got an early start on carving and had pizza in the studio. Can’t beat that!!! We did have cooler weather for the rest of the week but speaking for me; I wore shorts and t-shirt all week and had the fan going. Can you believe that?

Hot & Muggy

This month of August has made it impossible to spend any carving time in an unconditioned work shop so, again I have moved my carving time back into the house where it is air conditioned. With a carving week at Wild Acres Retreat almost among us I will be looking forward to some cooler carving weather by attending this year’s Retreat.

Happy Independence Day

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July with fireworks and sparklers celebrating our 241st year since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

With July starting our second half of the year, it also happens to be the first of several hottest months of the year. With this weather being so hot and humid, it will give you time to stay inside and sharpen those carving skills and give you the opportunity to finish that carving for the clubs upcoming show.

The Magic Month of June

The month of June reminds us that the year is half over and we still have another half year to go. The items we procrastinated on doing in the first six months are now looking us in the eye. We need to finish up those items so we can get on with the next six months of “Carvings for the Show”. So, what I’m trying to say is, we have eight months to complete our carvings for the 2018 Showcase. Remember, the Show Theme is “Anything Nautical” and we have two new Prize Money Categories which are “Cottonwood Bark” and “Animals”. This is the Magic Month so get started on those carvings.
