HAPPY HOLIDAYS CHARLOTTE WOODCARVERS!As the Holiday Season approaches I hope we all can take time to visit with family, friends and neighbors. Please remember the men and women who protect this great country. We are the home of the free because of the brave. Finally, remember the reason for the season. Let’s all be kind and tolerant towards others.
We have had some very interesting programs presented at the club such as Rod Gatlins’ carved faces, Neil McGuires’ chip carving, Bill Dominics’ painting and Bubba Mullis’ alcohol ink finishing technique. Many thanks to Marcy Chirdon for coordinating the programs. I know she has several more lined up for next year. If you have any ideas for programs you would like to see please contact Marcy through the club website.
Hello Charlotte Woodcarvers;I would to remind all club members that our Holiday Party is scheduled for December 3, 2019. As is customary, we will meet at the Carmel Presbyterian Church at 5:30 and serve dinner at 6:00. We would like for those participating to bring a side dish enough to serve their family and 2 others. The Club will be furnishing the meat and dessert. Please bring whatever carvings you are working on, whether they are completed or not, for display. Finally, if you have any carving related items such as wood, tools, books or carvings that you would like to donate for the Holiday Party door prizes, please get them to me by the end of November.
Greetings WoodcarversFirst, I would like to thank all of the carvers that participated at the Matthews Alive Festival. Every year the festival seems to grow with more and more vendors and activities for young and old alike. Our club is extremely fortunate to have a nice air conditioned room to demonstrate carving and to display our completed projects. The public perception of our work was very favorable and we enjoyed explaining the differences in the various wood and tools that we use for carving. Second, in the future I would like to see more club members participate. I know this is a holiday weekend and we all have commitments but a couple of hours of carving can mean a great deal to the club. This is the only club activity that we actually receive a stipend for doing what we love.
Hello Fellow WoodcarversSummer is about to wind down and hopefully everyone has had to formulate and idea to carve for our show theme-Americana. The theme is open to numerous interpretations and we look forward to seeing the various creative carvings that are sure to be entered. For those that did not have an opportunity to carve at Wildacres I hope you get the chance in the future. For those that did go, we had a great time carving, good fellowship, good food and beautiful mountain vistas. Both instructors for the week, Ron Dowdy and Tom Gow, did a super job.
Greetings Fellow Carvers
Well this has certainly been an oppressive summer with heat and humidity skyrocketing. The upside to all this hot weather suggests that now is a good to finalize all those projects that just need a little more finishing or painting or staining. This is a great time to stay indoors with the air conditioning and complete your carvings.
July 9, 2019 was the annual picnic with approximately 50 carvers, friends and family enjoying the BBQ chicken and all the “fixins”. Special thanks to Bill and Judy Dominic for all their work bringing everything together for the club picnic.
